Individual Differences in Distance Travelled by Serial Burglars
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper uses police data on a sample of 41 serial burglars committed in the city of St John’s, Canada and surrounding areas, to examine individual differences in distances travelled. In accord with findings from studies in other locations, results show that serial burglary is a localised activity. Differences between serial burglars in distances they travel are related to the burglars’ age, method of transportation and value of property stolen. These results are discussed in terms of existing explanations of distances that serial burglars travel to select targets and implications for police decision-making. IT’S NO RIDDLE, CHOOSE THE MIDDLE The Effect of Number of Crimes and Topographical Detail on Police Officer Predictions of Serial Burglars’ Home Locations
This study examines the effect of the number of crimes and topographical detail on police officer predictions of serial burglars’ home locations. Officers are given 36 maps depicting three, five, or seven crime sites and topographical or no topographical details. They are asked to predict, by marking an X on the map, where they thought each burglar lived. After making their predictions on half ...
متن کاملThe effect of ethanolic extract of Ferula szowitsiana on cognitive deficits and lipid peroxidation induced by ethidium bromide in experimental model of MS
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of short-term microinjection of Ferula szowitsiana extract on the process of spatial memory and lipid peroxidation in the hippocampus in an experimental model of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Methods: In this experimental study, 35 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups. Each group has 7 rats. These groups were inclu...
متن کاملP12: Protective Effects of Nigella Sativa on Synaptic Plasticity Impairment Induced by Lipopolysaccharide
In the present study the protective effect of Nigella sativa (N. sativa) on synaptic plasticity impairment induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in rats was investigated. Fifty-eight rats were grouped and treated as follows: 1) control (saline), 2) LPS, 3) LPS-N. sativa, and 4) N. sativa. In a Morris water maze test, the escape latency and travelled path to find the platform as well as time spent...
متن کاملKELLY: TREE WETA MOVEMENT PATTERNS SHORT COMMUNICATION Movement patterns and gallery use by the sexually dimorphic Wellington tree weta
The Wellington tree weta, Hemideina crassidens, is a harem-polygynous nocturnal insect whose males defend and mate groups of females residing in cavities in trees. In this study I examined sexual differences in gallery use (number of galleries occupied per unit time), distance travelled per night and activity patterns after sunset. In addition, I investigated how gallery size affected each of t...
متن کاملDynamics of T-Junction Solution Switching Aimed at Patch Clamp Experiments
Solutions exchange systems are responsible for the timing of drug application on patch clamp experiments. There are two basic strategies for generating a solution exchange. When slow exchanges are bearable, it is easier to perform the exchange inside the tubing system upstream of the exit port. On the other hand, fast, reproducible, exchanges are usually performed downstream of the exit port. A...
